Different types of pet cages are used for a variety of different types of animals. They are especially made for the type of household friend that you own, and for specific purposes.

The categories of pets that are often placed in pet cages include the following:

· Birds: Usually different varieties of domestic birds are placed in wire cages. A fabricated perch and/or a variety of tree branches are usually placed in the cage. These perches provide a place for the bird to rest.

· Gerbils: Usually this type of animal is placed in a wire or glass cage with plenty of ventilation. The bottom of the cage is usually lined with wood chips, newspaper, or other material to help make cleaning of waste easier.

Sometimes they are provided with a toy or large spinning wheel. They require more space than hamster or other rodent-like animals.

· Hamsters: These small animals are usually placed in a wire or glass cage with plenty of room for breathing. They often use a spinning wheel for exercise. Sometimes they find their way through playground-style tunnels as well.

· Ferrets: They live in similar habitats as hamsters or gerbils. Sometimes multilevel cages are provided to provide exercise for this type of animal that often likes to move.

· Dogs: Carries and houses for dogs are made out of a variety of material. Stationary ones are typically made from wood, steel, or plastic and are placed in the yard. Portable carriers and kennels are used for both transportation and as a place to sleep.

· Cats: Often cats are carried around in a kennel similar to the type in which dogs are transported. They usually only require a small space, unlike larger dogs and other animals. However, unusually large cats may also use a carrier the size of a dog’s cage.

· Reptiles: These animals are usually placed inside glass cages that are created of large enough dimensions to prevent from animals such as lizards, snakes, other creatures from escaping. Objects on which they can climb are also included.
